Bobby Staub Named Athletics Director At Louisiana-Monroe
June 30, 2004
MONROE, La. ----- Bobby Staub, Senior Associate Athletics Director at UAB and a member of the Blazers' athletic staff the past 20 years, has been named Director of Athletics at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Staub, who has held his current position at UAB since 1997, joined the staff in 1984 as assistant ticket manager and served as athletic ticket manager from 1985-89. Staub became assistant athletics director in 1990 and remained in that position until 1995 when he was named associate athletic director.
More than 20 years on the job in Birmingham did not make the decision an easy one for Staub.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to become the Athletic Director at Louisiana-Monroe," said Staub. "Under Dr. (James) Cofer's leadership, I believe ULM has an extremely bright future. Obviously, I have some mixed emotions. This is a great opportunity and I am excited, but at the same time, I am sad to leave UAB. I have 20 years of great memories here working with a lot of great people."
"The chemistry is right with Bobby," said ULM President Dr. James Cofer. "We are very pleased to have a person of his caliber join our staff. We wanted to be sure he had plenty of time to make the right decision for him, his family, and ULM. This is another step in the effort to move ULM athletics and academics forward," said Cofer.
A 1982 graduate of Auburn with a degree in industrial management, Staub is a member of several professional and service organizations, including the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Staub founded the UAB chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is still involved as the organization's advisor.
"We are excited and proud for Bobby and we will miss him," said UAB Director of Athletics Watson Brown. "He has been a loyal and valuable staff member for UAB, and played a large part in the day-to-day operation of our department. I think this is a great hire for Louisiana-Monroe."
Staub is in his first year as a member of the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee, and is also a member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the UAB Faculty Athletic Committee. He has been the Tournament Manager for the Conference USA Men's Basketball Championships and has been been the UAB's liaison for the Collegiate Licensing Company.
Staub is a native of Birmingham and attended Mountain Brook High School. He is married to the former Laura Vaughan of Gainesville, Ga.
