May 28, 2004
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Stacey Torman, Director of Strength & Conditioning at UAB, was recently honored with one of the most prestigious distinctions in her profession. Torman was named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa).
The honor is the highest given in the strength and conditioning profession, and highlighted the organization's conference, held in Salt Lake City, earlier this month. Stacey is the first female collegiate strength and conditioning coach to receive this prestigious title. In addition, she has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the CSCCa.
"This is an incredible honor for Stacey," said CSCCa Executive Director Chuck Stiggins. "Being named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach signifies a commitment to student athletes, a commitment to UAB athletics, and a commitment to her profession. We are honored to have coach Torman as a member of our association. She is truly a standard bearer to all strength and conditioning coaches nationwide."
In order to receive this certification and corresponding title of distinction, Master Strength and Conditioning coaches must meet the following criteria: 1) Minimum of a bachelors degree; 2) Currently practicing, full-time strength & conditioning coach on the collegiate level; 3) Member of the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa); 4) Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association; and 5) Full-time, collegiate, and/or professional strength & conditioning coach for a minimum of 12 years.

These 7 coaches joined the existing 36 Master Strength & Conditioning Coaches, bringing the total number of MSCC's in the world to 43.
