UAB Honors Senior Student-Athletes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB Athletics recognized its 2004-05 senior student-athletes at an awards dinner Monday night with Sam Clark of the Blazer baseball team and synchronized swimming's Amanda Haeuser taking home the Male and Female Academic Awards, respectively.
Clark and Haeuser were just two of the student-athletes honored at the annual event. Clark, in addition to the overall male academic honor, also was recognized as the winner of the Harry "The Hat" Walker Memorial Scholarship. Track and field/cross country performer Amanda Kara of Decatur, Ala. was named the winner of the Mervyn Goldstein Memorial Scholarship as well as the Student Athlete Advisory Council Award.
Softball's Beth Mullins, a native of Fairhope, Ala. was tabbed for the Gene Bartow Scholarship Award while fellow softball player Amanda Ellis (Axis, Ala.) was named the recipient of the Jerry D. Young Memorial Scholarship.
Also honored Monday were volleyball's Karen Boyd of Troy, Ill. who was named the winner of the Lillyan Fahy Scholarship. Football offensive lineman Larry Coachman was tabbed for the "Snoozy" Jones Scholarship while All-Conference USA basketball player Mo Finley earned the Jerry and Barbara Hallerman Memorial Scholarship.
The Blazers also recognized a pair of individuals as new "Honorary Letterwinners." Former Blazer football coach George "Snoozy" Jones and long-time UAB football and basketball broadcaster Gary Sanders were named "Honorary Letterwinners."
