Norm Reilly Joins UAB Athletics Staff

Norm Reilly, who has more than 20 years experience in the university athletics communications field, including stints at the University of Georgia and East Carolina University, has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
Reilly, who will oversee all aspects of the Blazers' media relations operations, has spent the past year as Director of Communications and Public Relations at the National Senior Games Association in Baton Rouge, La.
Prior to joining the Senior Olympics organization last year, Reilly served five-and-a-half years as Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at East Carolina, overseeing the Pirates' athletics communications efforts.
Reilly, 42, joined the staff at ECU in August of 1995 after a long tenure in Athens, Ga. where he had been Georgia's Associate SID since 1987. Prior to that time, he had served as Assistant SID from 1982-87 and was a graduate assistant in the Georgia office from 1980-82.
"I am extremely excited to be joining the staff at UAB," said Reilly, "and l Iook forward to getting back to the college athletics environment which I enjoyed for so long. I appreciate the opportunity Herman Frazier has given me. There are so many positives happening at UAB right now, and I look forward to being a part of this continued progress."
Reilly is a 1980 graduate of the University of Georgia where he earned his ABJ degree from the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism and Mass Communications. He has worked on the press operations staff of the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle and served as Atlanta Olympic Broadcasting's chief liaison officer for the aquatics venue at the '96 Centennial Olympic Games. Most recently, Reilly served as Information Manager for Ice Hockey at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Reilly won 12 CoSIDA publications awards while at Georgia for the Bulldog basketball media guides and game programs. He also won pair of CoSIDA publications awards at ECU.
Reilly will start his new post at UAB on April 8.
