The University of Alabama at Birmingham Athletics
Rancont Named Associate Athletic Director
"Since my arrival on campus I have made some changes in the organizational structure and Dennis has taken on new additional duties, " said Frazier.
"I am extremely pleased with his progress and I believe this new title is warranted."
Rancont, who is currently the longest-serving member of the athletic administrative staff, came to UAB as a student trainer in 1978 and has served in many different areas over the past 24 years, including sports information and marketing and has coordinated many of the department's day-to-day administrative functions.
For the past five years Rancont has served as assistant athletic director for operations, working very closely with the overall athletic program and has served as travel coordinator for the UAB Football program. He has also served for many years as the UAB Athletic Department's liaison to the City of Birmingham and has worked particularly closely with the Birmingham Park and Recreation Board.
When Frazier took over as director of athletics in 2000, Rancont assumed an enhanced role, with responsibility for facilities and event administration, as well as coordinating event and venue schedules for all of UAB's 17 intercollegiate sports.
Rancont has also played a key role in the administration of several major UAB-related events, including the Arby's Hardwood Classic basketball double-headers, the Alabama Sports Festival and the U.S. Youth Games.
