One of the most colorful characters to have ever graced the UAB campus, Harry "The Hat" Walker served as the first head coach for the Blazer baseball program from its inception in 1979 to 1986. Walker led the Blazers to two Sun Belt North Division titles and had an eight year record of 211 - 171. His #32 is the only UAB baseball jersey to be retired. Walker spent 22 years as a player in professional baseball, playing eight years as a St. Louis Cardinal. He also spent 20 years as a manager, including league stints with the Cardinals (1955), the Pittsburgh Pirates (1965-67), and the Houston Astros (1968-72). The Harry "The Hat" Walker Scholarship Golf Tournament allows us to honor the memory of a dear friend and generate scholarship revenue for the young men and women who are the heart of UAB Athletics. One hundred percent of monies raised go directly to underwrite scholarships for our student-athletes. With your help, we are able to provide a quality education and the highest level of athletic competition for over 350 deserving student-athletes. Please make plans to join us at Inverness Country Club on June 3, 2002.
