Smallwood, Munoz Sweep American Conference Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball's Cali Smallwood and Sofia Munoz have been named the American Conference's Player and Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Smallwood, a junior from Blountsville, Ala., earned her first Player of the Week nod of her career after averaging 20.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in the two wins. She led the team with a career-high 29 points while adding five rebounds against Alabama A&M last Wednesday. Smallwood sank a career-best six three-pointers en route to her career-high 29 points, leading the Blazers' season-high 47 bench points. In the win at Chattanooga on Sunday, she tallied 11 points and was 3-for-7 from the field and 3-for-5 behind the arc.
Munoz, a freshman from Canovanas, Puerto Rico, earned her first Freshman of the Week nod after averaging 14.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game in the two wins. She recorded 16 points and season-bests eight assists and four steals against the Bulldogs. Munoz sank her second consecutive first-quarter buzzer-beater of the season versus Alabama A&M, with her first coming against South Alabama. On Sunday, Munoz registered 13 points, a season-high four rebounds and added five assists. She was 6-for-7 from field goal range in the win at Chattanooga.
Smallwood, Munoz and the Blazers will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 22 when they travel to Murray State. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
