Blazer Defeat No. 4 Youngstown State In 11th Place Finish

ORLANDO, Fla. - UAB Bowling opened its season at Destination Orlando, hosted by Sacred Heart. The Blazers went 6-7 in an 11th-place finish, picking up three ranked wins over the weekend. Madison Colston led the Blazers with an average pinfall of 190.40 in UAB's five traditional matches. Freshman Anella Tillman found her way into the lineup for the day two traditional matches, making her collegiate debut. Tillman averaged a 174.20 pinfall in traditional matches.

921-944 loss to No. 5 Wichita State
- UAB led after two games, 384-380, but fell behind in the match after losing game three by 38 pins. The Shockers extended their lead with a 22-pin win in game four. Despite winning by 33 pins in the final game, UAB was not able to overcome Wichita State's lead through four games.
- After a tie in game one, 185-185, Maryville used back-to-back 50+-pin wins to pull away from UAB.
- The Blazers picked up their first win in a blowout victory over Saint Anselm. UAB put together three 200-pin performances, including a 253 and 244 in games two and five, respectively. The Blazers won the final game of the series 244-124.
- UAB won its first in-state rivalry of the season, defeating the Hornets by 160. UAB pieced together four 200-pin games, fending off a strong Alabama State performance with two 200-point performances of their own. The Blazers won game two 246-169, giving UAB a major cushion through the rest of the match.
- After starting with a 225-pin game, the Blazers fell flat through the rest of the match as UMES responded with three 190+ games.
1015-976 win over No. 7 North Carolina A&T State
- UAB opened day two with its first ranked win of the year, defeating MEAC rivals NC A&T State, 1015-976. Madelynn Oliva did some heavy lifting in the overall score, bowling a 255 against the Aggies.
- None of the five Blazers recorded a 200-pin performance against the Bulldogs, opening the door for Alabama A&M's upset victory.
- The Blazers' second ranked win of the day took a similar path to Alabama A&M's upset win. Despite none of UAB's bowlers cracking the 200 mark, Duquesne saw two bowlers score below 150.
- UAB struggled against the hosts, Sacred Heart. Colston led the Blazers with a 190, while none of the other Blazers hit 165 in the match.
- The Blazers dominated in the final match of the day. Jordan Shipp saw every single pin fall in her 236 performance with eight strikes. Colston followed Shipp closely with a 221 and six strikes.
832-1049 loss to No. 1 Jacksonville State
- The No. 1-ranked Gamecocks dominated the final match before bracket play. Jacksonville State put together three-straight 200-point performances to close out the match, including a 248 in game five.
- UAB could not defeat Maryville the second time around against the Saints. After Maryville dominated the first game 254-180, UAB tightened up in game two, but still fell 167-136. UAB won its lone game in game three, 192-162. Even though the Blazers heated up with their best scores at 203 and 199 in games four and five, respectively, Maryville did the same with a 247 and 234 to defeat the Blazers in five games.
- The reigning national champion Penguins dominated the first game, winning 222-162. The Blazers responded with back-to-back 200-point wins, 202-151 and 238-192. UAB continued its momentum with a 191-174 win to pull within one game of the match win. Youngstown State did not go down easy, winning game five 190-155. The Blazers responded with a dominant 232-163 victory to clinch the win to wrap the tournament.
