BIRMINGHAM - UAB quarterback Ryder Burton has been named to the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 for Week 8 after his stellar performance in an upset win over No. 22 Memphis on Saturday.
Burton, who made his first career start on Saturday, was 20-of-27 for 257 total yards and three touchdowns. All three touchdowns went to his top target, Iverson Hooks. On the Blazers' final scoring drive of the game, Burton orchestrated an 11-play, 99-yard drive which was UAB's longest drive of the season by yardage.
In the game, Burton registered the most passing yards by a UAB quarterback in his first career start since Bryson Lucero threw for 319 yards against South Alabama in 2020. He also tallied the seventh-best QB rating in the nation in week 8 according to PFF (90.8).
Along with Burton, the other seven quarterbacks include Alonza Barnett III (James Madison), Drew Mestemaker (North Texas), Miller Moss (Louisville), Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt), Julian Sayin (Ohio State), Gunner Stockton (Georgia), Conner Weigman (Houston).
All eight quarterbacks have secured a spot on the Davey O'Brien Award Midseason Watch List.
The Blazers are on a bye next weekend and then return to action on Nov. 1 at UConn. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on CBS Sports Network.
