BIRMINGHAM - After a college debut to remember, UAB quarterback Ryder Burton has been selected as one of the eight quarterbacks selected for the Manning Award, an award given weekly to the quarterback with the top performance of the weekend in college football. The award is given by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
On Saturday, Burton was 20-of-27 with 257 total yards and three touchdowns. He also added a 94.2 QB. Burton, who entered the day with one career pass attempt, capped an exceptional performance with a 20-yard touchdown pass with 4:06 to go to lead the Blazers to a 31-24 upset of previously undefeated and 22nd-ranked Memphis in American action.
Burton registered the most passing yards by a UAB quarterback in his first career start since Bryson Lucero threw for 319 yards against South Alabama in 2020.
The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has named eight quarterbacks as its "Stars of the Week." College football fans can follow the Manning Award on social media (@ManningAward) to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Wednesday at 9 a.m. (Central), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 595 different quarterbacks from 138 schools have been recognized. Forty-nine players have been honored so far in 2025.
Along with Burton, other quarterbacks selected were Bryson Barnes (Utah State), Alonza Barnett III (James Madison), Joe Fagnano (UConn), Sam Leavitt (Arizona State), Miller Moss (Louisville), Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt), and Gunner Stockton (Georgia).
The Blazers are on a bye next weekend and then return to action on Nov. 1 at UConn. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on CBS Sports Network.
