BIRMINGHAM - After a historic performance on Saturday against 22nd-ranked Memphis, UAB wide receiver Iverson Hooks has received American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors by the league office on Monday.
A native of Pike Road, Alabama, Hooks caught all 11 of his targets from his quarterback Ryder Burton, who made his first career start on Saturday. Hooks finished the game with 172 receiving yards and three touchdowns, both resulting in career-highs.
Hooks is the first Blazer with at least 10 receptions since Austin Watkins Jr. in the 2019 New Orleans Bowl against Appalachian State (10 receptions). His 11 receptions are tied for 5th most in a single game in school history. He ranks 19th in school history in single game receiving yards. His 172 receiving yards were the most by a UAB player since Tejhaun Palmer recorded 179 in 2023. Hooks is also the eighth Blazer in school history with at least three touchdown receptions. That mark is the most in a single game since Kam Shanks last season against Tulsa, which also came in the Children's Harbor game.
Hooks is the third player in program history with 10 receptions and three receiving touchdowns in a game joining Derrick Ingram (Prairie View A&M, 1994) and Willie Quinney (Army, 2002).
Hooks leads the American Conference and ranks 21st nationally in receiving yards with 560. He also ranks third in the American Conference with five touchdown receptions.
The Blazers are on a bye next weekend and will return to action on Saturday, November 1 as UAB travels to UConn for its final non-conference game of the season. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network at 11 a.m. CT.
