Lee Beebe Jr. Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List

BIRMINGHAM – Redshirt sophomore Lee Beebe Jr. has been named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, which is annually presented to the nation's top running back.
Beebe Jr. is a candidate for AAC breakout player of the year after averaging nearly seven yards per carry last season. Beebe Jr. carried the ball 52 times for 360 yards and four touchdowns, and his production should only increase as one of UAB's featured backs in 2024.
His average of 6.9 yards per carry ranks second in the record books for single season yards per carry average, only behind DeWayne McBride who averaged 7.35 YPC in 2022.
Beebe Jr. follows a long list of standout running backs at UAB who were named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, and all who rank one, two, and three on UAB's career rushing list: Spencer Brown (4,011), DeWayne McBride (3,523) and Jermaine Brown Jr. (3,078).
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient.
The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2024 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024.
