UAB Bowling Wins First Tournament in Four Years

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB Bowling Team won the Southern Queens Tournament last week in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This was UAB's first tournament win since 2020.
UAB started off baker play with a 2-2 record with wins over Grambling State and Texas Southern. The losses came by a total of six pins.
The Blazers started out traditional play on day two with a one pin win over No. 8 Sam Houston State. This would be the second of five matches against Sam Houston. UAB also beat Sam Houston again and Southern in traditional play.
In bracket play the Blazers started as two seed against Sam Houston State for the 4th time. UAB lost in seven games. From there the Blazers faced the 4th seeded Alabama State. UAB won this match in 7 games to put them in the championship series against Sam Houston State once again. The Blazers won games one, three, five, and seven to win the championship.
UAB had three of the top five for total number of pinfall: Jordan Shipp (971, 195 average), Madelynn Oliva (966, 193.20 average), and Madison Colston (943, 188.60 average).
Southern Queens record: 8-5
Overall Record: 16-9

The UAB Bowling team heads to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete in the MEAC #1 Tournament at North Carolina A&T State University. The tournament will be November 9-10 (Saturday-Sunday).
