Norton Announces Four Signees for 2025 Class

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball head coach Randy Norton announced that Ashlyn Howard, Mari Miller, Sofia Munoz and Peyton Musial have signed their National Letters of Intent in the initial window.
"We are very excited about our 2025 class," Norton said. "Sofia, Mari, Peyton and Ashlyn are of the highest character and will help our program continue to compete and win championships on the court and in the classroom. All four signees come from incredible high schools and AAU programs and have all won championships. They will be great ambassadors for our program, UAB and the city of Birmingham."
Howard, Miller, Munoz and Musial will become Blazers ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. UAB's signees hail from nationwide and international ranks and was constructed with versatile pieces.
Ashlyn Howard | 6-1 | Forward | Trussville, Ala. | Hewitt Trussville High School
Howard decided to keep her talents in the state and joins the program from Trussville, Alabama. Howard comes to UAB after averaging 10.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game at the high school level. The 6-1 forward, was selected for the AHSAA North South All-Star game and in 2024 helped lead her to team to become the 7A State runner ups.
"Ashlyn is 6-1 post player that can also step out and shoot the three," Norton said. "Her improvement in the last year and a half has been outstanding and she will only continue to get better. Defensively, she will give us a great inside presence, she has a nose for the ball and can rebound out of her area."
Howard's athletic talents come from her family as her parents and brother all played at the collegiate level.
Mari Miller | 5-11 | Guard | Columbia, Mo. | Rock Bridge
A 5-11 guard from Columbia, Missouri, comes to Birmingham after earning a number of accolades for her talents. Miller is a three-time All-Conference honoree, named All-District three times and earned All-State two times. Miller was named Boone County Player of Year and played in two final fours. During her junior year of high school, she reached 1,000 points. She comes to UAB having averaged 12.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Miller has made her way into her high school record books in almost every category for career statistics, while also being ranked in single-season records.
"Mari is a 5-11 guard with a high basketball IQ and has the versatility to play all three perimeter positions on the floor," Norton said. "She is the ultimate team player and is always looking for the open player with amazing court vision. She is a tremendous 3-point shooter, has a great mid-range game and can fill it up in a hurry. On the defensive end, she can guard all perimeter positions, anticipates extremely well and is a lock down defender."
Miller's dad was a dual sport athlete at Lincoln University where he played football and baseball.
Sofia Munoz | 5-8 | Guard | Canovanas, Puerto Rico | Lake Highland Prep
Munoz, a Canovanas, Puerto Rico native, spent her time in Orlando, Florida, playing for Lake Highland Prep. The 5-8 guard recorded 30 points in a game while she was playing for Puerto Rico's national team against Brazil.
"Sofia is a gritty, hard-nosed, point guard with a high IQ," Norton said. "She is one of the premiere guards in her class because of her elite athleticism, speed, and quickness. Her skillset allows her to get in the paint and attack the rim or create chances for her teammates. She also has the ability to knock down open threes with deep range. She is tenacious on defense and can really pressure the ball end line to end line."
Munoz is the first from her family to play at the collegiate level.
Peyton Musial | 5-11| Guard | De Pere, Wis. | Notre Dame Academy
The last addition to the class in Musial who comes from De Pere, Wisconsin. Musial prepped at Notre Dame Academy where she helped her team become two-time state champions.
"Peyton is a long wing that is a three-level scorer," Norton said. "She is an ultimate team player and only knows winning. She has an extremely high basketball IQ and is tenacious on defense. Her length allows her to be able to guard 1-4 positions and has great physicality to her game."
Musial comes from an athletic family and the second of her family to play at the Division l level. Her brother played baseball for one year at Arkansas State and is currently on the roster at Valparaiso. Her dad played baseball at the NAIA level at Mount St. Clare.
2024-25 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON TICKETS
