Bowling Finishes 12th at First Tournament of the Season

ORLANDO - The UAB Bowling Team started off the season strong beating four ranked teams in Baker and Traditional matches last weekend. Those teams included No. 3 Youngstown State, No. 5 Nebraska, No. 10 Duquesne (Baker), and No. 12 Mount St. Mary's.
UAB went 7-3 over the first two days of the tournament before heading into bracket play. The tournament featured 12 teams ranked in the top 25 with UAB receiving votes. The Blazers got their highest pin total through days one and two when they beat Prairie View A&M 1,079-865.
UAB entered bracket stage as the 11th seed with a chance to finish as high as ninth with two wins. The best-of-seven style matches started off against 10th seeded Duquesne. UAB won the first game 217-195 before dropping the next four (5-1). The Blazers then played Alabama State for 11th place with in-state bragging rights. UAB once again won the first game before losing three in a row. The match ended 5-2 (236-220, 172-182, 197-232, 157-169, 214-183, and 214-216). UAB finished with an 8-5 overall record.
Madison Colston finished 7th in overall pinfall with an average of 227.80 per game. Savannah Schneider also finished in the top 50 with an average of 194.80 per game.

The UAB Bowling team heads to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to compete in the Southern Queens Tournament at Southern University. The tournament will be October 25-27 (Friday-Sunday).
