BIRMINGHAM – The preseason awards continue to pour in for Jermaine Brown Jr., who was selected to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List on Wednesday, which is annually presented to the nation's most versatile player in college football by the Louisville Sports Commission.
The Paul Hornung Award Presented by Texas Roadhouse is now in its 14th season and Brown Jr. has landed on the watch list for a second-consecutive year. He is one of 53 players on this year's watch list and one of five players from the American Athletic Conference.
The Prichard, Ala. native is coming off a career-best season in which he rushed for 948 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 120 receiving yards and 475 kick return yards for a total of 1,543 all-purpose yards.
Entering his final year as a Blazer, Brown Jr. has 2,275 career rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, to go along with 3,476 all-purpose yards. If Brown Jr. can rush for 725 yards this year, he would join Spencer Brown and DeWayne McBride as the only Blazers in school history to surpass 3,000 career rushing yards.
Additionally, Brown Jr. needs 1,194 all-purpose yards to become the school record holder in that category.
Brown Jr. was also recently named to the Maxwell Award which is presented to the college football player of the year and was a preseason First Team All-Conference selection by PFF, Phil Steele and Athlon Sports.
Brown Jr. and the Blazers are just 28 days away from opening the 2023 season on Aug. 31 against North Carolina A&T at Protective Stadium. Season and single game tickets are available by clicking here.
