Women's Soccer, Women's Basketball and Men's Tennis Earn Individual Sport Awards
BIRMINGHAM – UAB earned the Conference USA Institutional Academic Award for the 2022-23 academic year, posting a 3.331 GPA across all sports, the league office announced on Wednesday. The Institutional Excellence Award is given to the C-USA institution with the highest GPA during each academic year for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports.
UAB's women's basketball, women's soccer and men's tennis programs each earned the Conference USA Academic Excellence Award for having the highest GPA in their respective sports.
"UAB is an outstanding institution that attracts outstanding student-athletes who work incredibly hard in the classroom first, and on the field second." Athletic Director Mark Ingram added, "I'm so proud of their hard work and for being recognized with this award. Because it includes all of our student-athletes, from all 18 sports, this may be the most difficult championship to win."
The UAB women's basketball earned the Academic Excellence Award for the fourth time over the last six years while women's soccer and men's tennis are being recognized for the first time.
Women's basketball placed 16 on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll while Ashton Elley, Molly Moffitt, Lyndsey Robson, Maria Roters and Desiree Ware earned the Commissioner's Academic Medal. The women's soccer program placed 26 athletes on the Honor Roll and saw 16 players earn an academic medal. Eleven UAB men's tennis athletes earned a spot on the Commissioner's Honor Roll while six earned an academic medal.
