Blazers Conclude Days 1 & 2 of Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE – UAB Track & Field concluded the first days of the Tennessee Relays with a solid foundation to build on. After completing a bulk of events on the track and in the field, the Blazers finished with quality performances at Tom Black Track Friday evening.
"We had some solid performances today despite the rainy and cold conditions," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "The Heptathletes put together a solid day one (of the Heptathlon) and put themselves in a good position for a great overall Hept score."
DAYS ONE & TWO
Competition started light with only two events beginning on day one.
The Blazers began competition in throws on Thursday, starting with the women's hammer throw. Tia Espinoza finished the day with a 32.60
The second day of the meet began with the women's heptathlon, where Megan Hamilton Strong and Laney Kronz had a solid outing to start the meet. Hamilton Strong finished with a PR in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.99, finishing sixth. Kronz finished fourth overall in the event with a 14.65.
Hamilton Strong placed second in the heptathlon shot put with a 11.16m. Her and Kronz finally PR'd in the heptathlon 200, placing fifth and sixth.
Following the conclusion of the heptathlon, the women's 1500m followed, with Sangie Lincoln-Velez setting a personal record time of 4:39.29. She would also place top 15 in C-USA standings with her performance.
On the field, Espinoza finished top-eight in discus with a throw of 37.27m. Also having a solid performance in throws would be Mya McDanal, throwing a 40.34 and placing her in the top-five category of performances.
"Mya threw the Javelin well with another weekend over 40 meters. Sangie ran another PB in the 1500m and a top-15 C-USA time," said Thomas, "And Kyra ran a solid first track 5K. We have another full day here with lots of opportunities to perform."
