DeWayne McBride Selected by Minnesota Vikings in 7th Round of 2023 NFL Draft

BIRMINGHAM – UAB record-setting running back DeWayne McBride has been selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 7th round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
McBride becomes the 17th Blazer in program history selected in the NFL Draft and UAB has now had at least one player chosen in each of the last three drafts.
McBride rewrote UAB's record book in 2022 en route to earning Second Team All-America honors after leading the nation in rushing yards (1,713) and rushing yards per game (155.7) during the regular season.
The Starke, Fla. native set no less than nine school records in 2022, including rushing yards (1,713), rushing yards per game (155.7), rushing touchdowns (19), yards per carry (7.35), 100-yard games (10), 200-yard games (3), rushes of 20+ yards (23), total points (114) and the single game rushing record (272 yards vs. Louisiana Tech).
McBride put together the most decorated single season in school history as he was named Walter Camp Second Team All-America, The Sporting News Second Team All-America, Pro Football Focus Second Team All-America, Associated Press Third Team All-America, Phil Steele Third Team All-America and was the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year.
In three seasons, McBride finished his career ranking second at UAB in rushing yards (3,523) and rushing touchdowns (36), while owning the record for career rushing yards per game (117.4) and yards per carry 7.28.
The Vikings finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 13-4 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the New York Giants.
