UAB Men’s Tennis Wins Thriller over No. 62 Rice in C-USA Tourney

HOUSTON – UAB men's tennis (21-6) advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Tennis Championships with a 4-3 win over No. 62 Rice (12-10). Roman Postolka took the third set of his back-and-forth singles match after over four hours to secure the victory for the Blazers.
DOUBLES
Rice was able to take the doubles point with wins on Court One and Court Three. The Blazers earned their second win of the season after dropping the doubles point.
SINGLES
Rice quickly took a 3-0 lead in single play with a pair of straight set wins on Court Four and Court Six. However, the Blazers would not be eliminated.
Michal Lusovsky was the first to get UAB on the board. He earned a three-set win on Court One (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) to make it 3-1. Carlos Gimenez Perez followed shortly afterwards, winning in two sets on Court Five (7-6 [8-6], 6-4). Vojtech Podzemny evened the score at 3-3 with a three-set win (7-6, 4-6, 6-2).
The contest came down to Court Two. Roman Postolka and Emir Sendogan faced off in an epic three-set thriller. After winning the first set, Postolka led 5-2 in the second set, but Sendogan was able to erase that lead and take the second set in a tiebreaker. Postolka again took a commanding lead in the third set, jumping ahead 5-0 but once again Sendogan would not go away. He tied it up at 5-5 before Roman Postolka won the final two points to clinch it for the Blazers.

UAB will take on No. 27 Middle Tennessee on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT in the semifinals of the C-USA Tournament.
