Adriana Pereira Named Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year

BIRMINGHAM – Following a record-setting season in 2022, fourth-year junior Adriana Pereira has been named the Conference USA Beach Volleyball Preseason Player of the Year.
Pereira is now the first player in program history to be named the Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year. Last season, she and her Court 1 partner Rachel Tam were the first UAB duo in school history selected as First Team All-Conference USA members.
"It's has been an amazing journey witnessing Adriana blossom into who she is today as a player and a person," head coach Terri Del Conte said. "I have enjoyed coaching her and am excited to be a part of her last year. You want to keep a player like Adriana forever."
Pereira played to an overall record of 20-14 last season with all her action coming on Court 1. The 20 Court 1 victories were the most in a single season at UAB, and she is one of just three players in school history to achieve 20 single season wins (Ella Alexander – 22, Rachel Tam – 20).
Pereira's 2022 highlights included notching a win over the top duo from Elite 8 participant Georgia State, along with victories over South Carolina, Tulane, North Florida, Stetson, Southern Miss (x2) and Coastal Carolina.
She enters the 2023 campaign with a career record of 27-23 overall, and with 22 career Court 1 wins she is 13 shy of setting the program record in that category.
Pereira and the Blazers open the 2023 campaign this Saturday at the Third Coast College Classic hosted by Houston Christian. While in Houston, UAB will play Texas A&M Corpus Christi, No. 3 TCU, Central Arkansas and HCU.
