WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
- UAB has won each of the last five meetings against North Texas and owns a 6-1 series lead overall. The Blazers defeated UNT 41-21 last season in Birmingham and last time these two met in Denton, the Blazers came away with a 40-6 victory.
- Saturday features two of the most high-powered offenses in the country as UAB's 22nd-ranked offense goes up against North Texas' 9th-ranked offense. UNT leads the AAC with an average of 482.4 yards per game and is also averaging 33.5 points per game, which is third best in the AAC and 25th nationally.
- However, UAB will be facing the nation's last ranked defense as North Texas is giving up an average of 473.9 yards and 36.6 points per game.
- Jacob Zeno enters the game ranking second nationally in completion percentage (74.5) and fourth nationally in completions per game (26.3). Zeno has already set the UAB single season record for completions (263 and counting) and needs 340 yards this weekend to set the single season passing yards record (Darrell Hackney – 3,180 in 2005).
- North Texas also boasts a prolific quarterback in Chandler Rogers who has thrown for 2,979 yards, 26 touchdowns and just four interceptions, while gaining 416 rushing yards (net 188) with four additional scores.
- The North Texas offense is very close to having a 3,000-yard passer, 1,000 rusher and 1,000 receiver, which would be the first time in program history that has happened for UNT. Rogers needs 21 passing yards, while WR Ja'Mori Maclin is 114 yards shy of 1,000 and running back Ayo Adeyi is 115 rushing yards away from 1,000.
- UAB running back Jermaine Brown Jr. needs 38 rushing yards to become just the third player in school history to rush for 3,000 career yards and would join former teammates and current NFL backs Spencer Brown and DeWayne McBride on that list. Brown is the school record holder in all-purpose yards and needs 154 all-purpose yards on Saturday to eclipse 5,000 for his career.
- Wide receivers Amare Thomas and Tejhaun Palmer are also close to etching their names into the record book. Thomas needs one reception to set the UAB freshman record for most receptions in a season. Thomas currently has 49 receptions which stands as the ninth most in a season at UAB.
- Palmer is the team's leading receiver with 760 yards and six touchdowns. Palmer needs 44 yards to crack the top 10 for single season receiving yards and needs 115 yards for 10th in career receiving yards at UAB.
- Defensively, UAB is coming off its best performance of the season in which it held Temple to 378 yards and compiled two sacks, three TFL, 10 QBH, nine PBU, an interception and a fumble recovery.
