HANRAHAN, La. – The UAB Bowling team finished ninth (7-6) out of 16 total teams this past weekend in the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane.
In Friday's five baker matches, the Blazers dropped all five games to Oklahoma Christian (945-955), Tulane (931-1,016), Sam Houston State (934-1,020), Stephen F. Austin (946-974) and Louisiana Tech (808-993).
However, on Saturday the Blazers surged back and found their groove, winning all five traditional team matches against Texas Southern (991-902), Alabama A&M (879-832), Jackson State (904-850), Emmanuel (971-893) and Southern (997-933).
On Sunday's best four-out-of-seven baker game bracket play, the Blazers dropped the first round to Emmanuel before bouncing back and winning the final two rounds against Southern and Alabama State to claim ninth place for the tournament.
Individually, Keagan Trexler finished for a team-high 15th place where she averaged 205.6 and recorded four games of over 200, with two of them going over 220.
"I was really happy with the weekend overall," said Head Coach Michelle Crews. "This team was resilient, determined and most importantly stayed open minded throughout the weekend. There were a couple of moments where in the past, teams would have had a hard time bouncing back. But this team was very impressive in their find a way to get it done mentality. We lost one or two matches where we definitely could have done a few things differently and the outcome could have been different. However, with every win and loss there is something important to be learned for future matches and tournaments. So, we are going to take everything we learned this weekend – on and off the lanes – and be better next time. I'm very excited for what this season holds and even more excited to be able to take so many Florida girls back home for our next tournament in Orlando."
