BIRMINGHAM – Regarded as one of the top strength and conditioning coaches in college football, Director of Sports Performance Lyle Henley enters his eighth season leading the UAB Football strength program.
Henley's staff remains intact as Jason Jones enters his fourth year with the Blazers, Bryant Novick returns to his Alma Mater after working on staff from 2019-21, and Andrew Reinkemeyer begins his second season with the Blazers.

"Lyle Henley is a guy I have heard about for years but did not know him," Head Coach Trent Dilfer said. "I quickly came to find out that he is one of the best in the business. He has had massive success here with Coach Clark and Coach Vincent's teams. He is a guy who isn't just a strength guy but is also a speed guy and a nutrition guy. He is a master in human development and we are in the business of developing the student-athletes to their fullest. We think Lyle is the best person for the job."
Lyle Henley:
Henley enters his eighth season as the Director of Sports Performance. Henley oversees all aspects that pertain to athletic performance on and off the field for the UAB Football program.
A cornerstone to UAB's successes since the program was reinstated in 2017, Henley has helped the Blazers to an overall record of 50-26 which includes two Conference USA Championships, three C-USA divisional titles and three bowl victories.
Prior to joining UAB in 2016, Henley owned Athlete Factory, a private training facility in Spanish Fort, Ala., from 2005-2015. While there, he trained 85 players who singed in the NFL, including 23 first and second round draft picks. Additionally, he helped Spanish Fort High School win the Alabama State Championship in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
Henley was a linebacker and tight end at Louisiana Tech from 1994-99 and got his first coaching job at the University of Alabama from 2000-2002. He then returned to his Alma Mater as the head strength coach from 2003-04 before opening his private gym.
Henley is married to his wife Nicki and they have two children, son Gage and daughter Jocie.
Jason Jones:
Jones enters his fourth season as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance for the UAB Football program.
Jones has been with the program since 2020 and during his time with the Blazers, UAB has won one Conference USA Championship (2020) and two bowl games (2021 Independence Bowl, 2022 Bahamas Bowl).
Prior to joining UAB, Jones spent 2015-2019 at the University of Alabama. He was an intern on the strength staff in 2015-16, and then spent three seasons (2017-19) as the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning for the women's basketball program.
In the summer of 2019, he earned the Bill Walsh internship with the Green Bay Packers.
Jones was a walk-on for the Crimson Tide football team in 2013. He graduated from Alabama in 2015 with a degree in Human Environment Sciences and earned his Master's degree in Sports Business Management from Alabama in 2019.
He is Cscca-SCCC, USAW and CPR/AED certified.
Bryant Novick:
Novick, who played offensive line for the Blazers from 2013-14, 17-18, returns to UAB in 2023 as the Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Upon graduating with a degree in Business Management from UAB in 2019, Novick joined the Blazers strength staff as an intern for the 2019 season and was then promoted to an assistant strength coach for 2020 and 2021.
Novick spent last year (2022) as the Director of Sports Performance for the football program at Long Island University before returning to Birmingham in January of 2023.
As a player, Novick appeared in 25 career games and was a member of the historic 2017 and 2018 teams which led the re-birth of the football program. In 2018, Novick helped the Blazers win their first ever Conference USA Championship and set a school record with 11 victories.
Andrew Reinkemeyer:
Reinkemeyer enters his second season at UAB as the strength and conditioning associate.
Prior to joining UAB in 2022, Reinkemeye spent January-June of 2022 as an intern in the football strength and conditioning department at the University of Georgia.
Reinkemeyer, a tight end, played collegiately at Butler County CC from 2013-15 and then played at South Alabama from 2016-18. He graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Business from South Alabama in 2018.

"Jason's reputation speaks for itself. He has been in the strength and conditioning world his whole life. He grew up in it. I met Jason when he was six years old and his father gave me my first job. He understands the world of strength and conditioning from inside out. He is a mentor to our players. We share the same philosophies on speed, agility. I trust what he does and he is my right-hand man."

"Bryant Novick is one of the brightest young minds in strength and conditioning. He has a rela modern approach in what we do movement wise. He runs the strength portion of what we do and understands the ins and outs of this program being a former player here and being on staff before. Him going out and getting experience as the head guy has been invaluable and he's a guy we trust within our program 100 percent."
Henley on Reinkemeyer:
"Andrew is an up-and-coming name that you are going to hear about in strength and conditioning. He has a great background having been at Georgia and seeing how things we ran. He has been around big-time players and talent and brings is skill level to what we do. He has been a positive influence on our players and staff."
