Sidney Wells Named to Wuerffel Trophy Award Watch List

BIRMINGHAM – Senior offensive lineman Sidney Wells has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which is college football's premier award for community service.
Wells has been a community leader since his arrival at UAB in 2019. Now entering his fourth year, Wells has been active with Habitat for Humanity, Children's Hospital and FCA, among others.
Wells has played in and started 27 career games. He was a First Team All-Conference USA selection in 2020, but only played in four games last year due to injury and is back after a redshirt season in 2021.
Established in 2005, the Wuerffel Trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrate their impact, and inspire greater service in the world. A member of the National College Football Awards Association, the Wuerffel Trophy is presented annually to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field. It is the first major award honoring the character of service to others.
The Wuerffel Trophy is named after Heisman Trophy winner, College Football Hall of Famer, former NFL quarterback, and renowned humanitarian Danny Wuerffel, whose life mission is to inspire greater service in the world.
Wells and the Blazers start fall camp this coming Monday, Aug. 1. UAB opens the season in just 35 days against Alabama A&M at Protective Stadium on Sept. 1.
Season tickets for the 2022 UAB Football season are still available starting as low as $90. Season ticket packages will feature all six home games and provide the most cost-effective way to for fans to attend games during the second season at Protective Stadium.
