Tejhaun Palmer Capitalizing on a Much Needed Offseason

BIRMINGHAM – Wide receiver Tejhaun Palmer played in 22 football games last year…yes, 22!
Because of COVID-19, the standout for Snow Community College played nine games in the spring of 2021, which culminated with a two-point loss in the NJCAA National Championship on June 5 (Palmer had four catches for 131 yards and a TD in that game).
Nine days later, he had his first summer conditioning workout at UAB.
"It was a lot on my body. I had a quick turn around after the championship game and had to be here for summer workouts. Fall camp was crazy. It was a lot."
Palmer (or T-Palm as he's referred to) did all he could to help the Blazers to a 9-4 overall record and a victory over No. 13 BYU in the Independence Bowl. He had three catches for 48 yards against the Cougars in the bowl game and finished his first season playing in all 13 games for the Blazers.
But needless to say, the time off has done wonders for Palmer as he expects to have an expanded role in the offense entering his redshirt junior season.
"The time off has helped my body a lot. I have been in the training room every day, have been in the cold tubs – making sure my body is right. I am excited about this season."
His extended offseason has not only given him a break both physically and mentally, but has also provided Palmer an opportunity to excel in the weight room and show the coaches what his full potential could be.
"Any time you want a guy to hit his highest potential, you have an idea positionally for what those plans are," said Director of Athletic Performance Lyle Henley. "What we have seen with him – is he has started to step outside of what his full potential is.
"He has had time to recover, and you have seen the transformation in his body as well. You see more lean muscle mass and you see a guy that we aren't having to sit out because he is recovering. We have definitely seen a difference in his performance."
Palmer started three games last season, and with a full offseason of recovery, coupled with lining up opposite of Trea Shropshire (who led the nation in yards per catch last season), the Blazers have a lethal 1-2 punch at wide receiver.
The Blazers are just 71 days away from kicking off the 2022 season on Sept. 1 against Alabama A&M at Protective Stadium.
Season tickets for the 2022 UAB Football season are still available starting as low as $90. Season ticket packages will feature all six home games and provide the most cost-effective way to for fans to attend games during the second season at Protective Stadium.
