BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team and head coach Justin DeSanto have announced the addition of Georgios Nouchakis to the 2022-23 men's tennis roster.
Nouchakis, who spent his first season of collegiate tennis at Montana State, went 4-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles as a freshman this spring. Nouchakis earned singles victories on courts four and six in the spring, notching wins over Whitman, Drake and Northern Arizona. In doubles, he earned wins on courts one and two in separate matches against Whitman.
Montana State finished the 2022 spring season 18-8 with a 7-1 record in the Big Sky, clinching a share of the Big Sky regular season title.
"Georgios is a great competitor who comes to us from a Montana State program that had a ton of success this year," DeSanto said. "I'm excited to have him as a Blazer and look forward to the impact he will have on our team."
Nouchakis, who is originally from Rethymno, Crete, trained in Barcelona from 2019-21 while competing on the Tennis Europe Tour and on the ITF U18 Tour for the six years prior to joining the Montana State program. He arrived in Bozeman, Montana, with a UTR of 11.9 and was ranked No. 258 by the ITF.
The future Blazer joins Bolivian international Iker Dellien, Huntsville, Alabama native Kaustubh Holcomb and Spanish international Carlos Gimenez Perez as newcomers for the 2022-23 season.
