Tam and Pereira Named C-USA Beach Pair of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – For going a perfect 4-0 on court one at the Carolina Challenge, Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira have been named the Conference USA Pair of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Tam and Pereira won all four of their matches in straight sets, which included victories over the top pairs from No. 14 South Carolina and No. 19 Stetson.
The duo helped UAB finish the weekend 3-1 overall as the Blazers registered a 3-2 victory over No. 19 Stetson for their first win over a nationally ranked opponent this season.
"Rachel and Adriana have been making big strides this year individually, as a pair and as teammates to their peers," said head coach Terri Del Conte. "This past weekend was a display of their tremendous growth. Their willingness and drive is inspiring."
They are the first UAB pair in school history to win Conference USA Pair of the Week as this is the first year C-USA has sponsored beach volleyball.
Tam and Pereira have played every match together this season on court one and have an overall record of 11-11. With a minimum of 10 matches remaining, the duo is approaching a few single season records, while Tam needs four more wins to become UAB's career leader in court one victories.
UAB is on the road this weekend at the GSU Diggin Duals, before returning to Birmingham on April 15-16, to host the Blazer Beach Bash.
