BIRMINGHAM – UAB's top duo of Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira have been selected as First Team All-Conference USA Beach Volleyball honorees, as announced by league officials on Wednesday.
Tam and Pereira are one of five pairs in the league named First Team All-Conference USA and become just the second pair in school history to garner All-Conference accolades, along with Jaelyn Keene and Tressa Buckland in 2019 (CCSA All-Conference).
"Rachel and Adriana have put in the work and are deserving of this honor," said head coach Terri Del Conte. "The whole team created the environment that allowed them, and us as a collective, to achieve new historical breakthroughs. Rachel and Adriana chose to be consistently true to themselves. They are influential and I am so happy for them."
Tam and Pereira have played every match together on Court 1 this season and have an overall record of 18-12. The 18 single season wins are the most as a duo in school history, while Tam also owns the Court 1 career wins record with 32 and counting.
These two have guided UAB to a school record 15 team wins and the Blazers enter postseason play having won 10 of their last 12 matches. They also helped UAB defeat No. 19 Stetson which was during an eight-game winning streak for Tam and Pereira.
Along with the win over Stetson, other signature moments included Court 1 victories over South Carolina, Georgia State, Tulane, Southern Miss (twice) and North Florida.
Tam and Pereira lead UAB into the Conference USA Tournament which begins on Thursday morning with No. 4 UAB taking on No. 5 Coastal Carolina. The winner of that match will advance to face top-seeded Florida Atlantic Thursday afternoon.
