UAB Finishes Fourth at SoCon Rifle Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – The UAB rifle team finished fourth in the 2022 Southern Conference Championships with a team aggregate score of 4,567, falling only five points short of a top-three finish.
UAB's team smallbore score of 2,253 finished only two points shy for a tie for second place with The Citadel's tally of 2,255. The Blazers also finished fourth in the air rifle with a score of 2,314.
Georgia Southern claimed its first SoCon team title with a first-place aggregate score of 4,603. North Georgia (4,594) and The Citadel (4,572) rounded out the top three at this past weekend's championships.
Amy Kohan concluded her strong season with a third-place finish in the individual aggregate, tallying a score of 1,157 after finishing third in the air rifle discipline (588) and fourth in the smallbore discipline (569).
Kohan's outstanding season and performance at the SoCon Championships earned her a spot on the All-Southern Conference Air Rifle First Team. Kohan was also named to the All-Southern Conference Smallbore Second Team.
Fellow Blazer Sophia Flores also finished inside the top 10 in the individual aggregate, recording a score of 1,147. Flores finished ninth in the smallbore discipline (566) and 11th in the air rifle discipline. She also joined Kohan as one of two Blazers to be named to the All-Southern Conference Smallbore Second Team.
Maggie Vonderau finished inside the top 15 in the smallbore with a score of 561. Her aggregate score of 1,133 came up just five points short of a top-10 finish.
