BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Football offensive line unit has been announced as members of the 2022 Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll.
The Joe Moore Award for Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit in College Football is the only major college football award that honors an entire unit and recognizes the most physical and toughest offensive line in the country.
The Joe Moore Award Voting Committee announced the Midseason Honor Roll O-Lines after each unit has gained attention from the committee through the Oct. 8 weekend by displaying award criteria on the field.
Being the only team recognized from Conference USA, UAB earned the spot amongst 21 other teams including No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Tennessee, No. 4 Michigan, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Ole Miss, No. 8 TCU, No. 9 UCLA, No. 10 Oregon, No. 12 USC, No. 14 Syracuse, No. 16 Penn State, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 18 Illinois, Air Force, Appalachian State, Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, Minnesota, Notre Dame and South Alabama.
The Blazers rank 8th nationally in rushing yards per game (243.6) which is on pace to shatter the program single season record. UAB is also on pace to set the single season school record for total yards per game (449.0). The stacked O-Line has helped running back DeWayne McBride lead the nation in rushing yards per game (155.6).
On the UAB offensive line, the Joe Moore Award Voting Committee stated:
"These dudes create space. Perfect for their north south rushing attack. RB's repeatedly get to LOS [line of scrimmage] with a ton of space between them and defenders. The ability to strain and finish is all over the tape. They are an unselfish bunch who protect their QB well and he rarely gets hit."
UAB has recorded at least one rushing touchdown in every game this year and multiple rushing touchdowns in five of six games and has a C-USA best 18 rushing touchdowns so far this season. The Blazers have rushed at least 230 yards in five of six games this season.
This is the first step into the process of receiving the Joe Moore Award. Semifinalist will be announced Nov. 15 followed by the finalist being announced after the conference championship games on Dec. 5.
UAB travels to WKU for a Friday night contest on CBS Sports Network at 7 p.m. The offensive line will have a chance to prove their dominance against C-USA's top-ranked rushing defense.
