BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's golf team took 10th place on Monday and Tuesday at the Hoover Invite hosted by the Blazers at Heatherwood Country Club.
"We can't thank Heatherwood Country Club enough for their efforts in making this tournament happen," said Kari Bellville. "They were able to host this tournament in one day's notice when Hoover Country Club flooded and allowed us to play 54 holes of golf this week. We have a lot to work on as a team but every time we play is a growing opportunity so we are thankful we had this chance to play."
Sophomore Karlee Allen was UAB's top finisher as she tied for 24th overall. Allen (78-75-77 = 229, +13) Allen shot her best round on Monday after with a three over 75.
Fellow sophomore Emilia Smith was one shot behind Allen as she tied for 29th overall. Smith (79-76-75 = 230, +14) went lower each round and her three over 75 on Tuesday moved her up seven spots in the final round.
Freshman Erika Allen posted the team's low round of the tournament with an even par 72 in Monday's second round. She ultimately finished 38th overall (77-72-84 = 233, +17).
Rose Baral (77-82-77 = 236, +20) finished in 47th place and Caroline Waldrop placed 67th (93-88-87 = 268, +52). Playing as an individual, Marilyn Steed tied for 45th place overall (83-76-76 = 235, +19).
Next up for the Blazers is the Johnie Imes Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri. That tournament is scheduled for Sept. 27-29 in Columbia.
