BIRMINGHAM – Senior offensive linemen Colby Ragland and Sidney Wells have been named to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, which is annually presented to the nation's most outstanding interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
Ragland and Wells are the two leaders on UAB's punishing offensive line which returns all five starters in 2021. The Blazers averaged 200.0 rushing yards per game last season and allowed the nation's fourth fewest sacks (4). Both Ragland and Wells were First Team All-Conference USA selections in 2020.
Ragland moved inside to left guard midway through last season as he and left tackle Kadeem Telfort are poised to make one of the best 1-2 left side tandems in the nation this season.
Wells has started 23 consecutive games since arriving in Birmingham in 2019 and is entering his third year as the starting right guard.
Expectations are high for this unit in 2021 as they look to once again be amongst the nation's most dominant offensive lines. Collectively, UAB returns 88 starts on the line.
Ragland and Wells are two of three players from Conference USA selected to the Outland Trophy, which can be awarded to either an offensive or defensive lineman. In all, 80 student-athletes were recognized on the preseason watch list.
The Blazers open the season on Sept. 1 against Jacksonville State at the Montgomery Kickoff on ESPN. Season tickets are on sale by clicking here. Single game tickets go on sale Aug. 4.
