DeWayne McBride Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List

BIRMINGHAM – Sophomore running back DeWayne McBride has been named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, which is annually presented to the nation's top collegiate running back.
McBride enters the 2021 season with high expectations after a tremendous rookie campaign in 2020. In only six games, McBride rushed 47 times for 439 yards and four touchdowns. His average of 9.3 yards per carry would have ranked him second nationally if he met the minimum of playing in 75 percent of the team's games.
The Ocala, Fla. native had two 100-yard rushing games last season with a career-high 133 yards at Louisiana Tech and 131 yards against WKU. Additionally, McBride set the UAB record for longest touchdown run in school history with a 75-yarder at Louisiana Tech.
McBride has the luxury of running behind one of the top offensive lines in the nation. All five starting offensive linemen return in 2021 to a unit that averaged 200.0 rushing yards per game and allowed the nation's fourth fewest sacks (4).
McBride is one of 82 total running backs on the Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List and just one of four from Conference USA. He was also named to the Conference USA Preseason Watch List.
McBride joins Kristopher Moll who have made preseason national award watch lists from UAB so far in 2021.
