BIRMINGHAM – Five UAB football players have been named to the 2021 Conference USA Preseason Watch List, as announced by league officials on Monday.
The five Blazers are sophomore running back DeWayne McBride, junior left tackle Kadeem Telfort, defensive lineman Antonio Moultrie, senior safety/linebacker Kristopher Moll and junior punter Kyle Greenwell.
McBride and Telfort are major breakout candidates on offense for the Blazers in 2021. With the departure of UAB's all-time leading rusher Spencer Brown, McBride now becomes the featured back and looks to build off a tremendous rookie season.
The Ocala, Fla. native rushed 47 times for 439 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman, and averaged an astonishing 9.3 yards per carry. He had two 100-yard rushing performances, and also set the record for longest touchdown run in school history (75 yards vs. Louisiana Tech).
At 6-foot-8, 335 lbs, Telfort is dripping with NFL potential at left tackle. The Florida transfer became the starter midway through last season and is expected to be a dominant force on an already stacked offensive line. He is one of five returning starters on the line, which also includes First Team All-Conference USA performers LG Colby Ragland and RT Sidney Wells.
Moultrie earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors last year and is a 2021 Athlon Sports Preseason First Team All-Conference USA selection entering his redshirt junior year. He led the defensive line with 33 tackles, 1.0 TFL, one interception, and two pass breakups.
Moll has a chance to go down as one of the best defensive players in program history. The 2021 Bednarik Award Watch List member is a two-time First Team All-Conference USA performer and earned Honorable Mention All-America status last season.
Greenwell is coming off the best season of his career and should contend for all the major punting awards entering his fourth season as the starter. In 2020, Greenwell averaged 42.6 yards per punt and had 15 downed inside the 20 and eight punts travel 50 yards or more.
