BIRMINGHAM–The UAB bowling team travels to Indianapolis, Ind. for Columbia 300 Western Shootouton March 27-28.
"We are so blessed to be able to add a new event on our schedule," said head coach Michelle Crews. "For the first time, we have added a USBC event. This event is very different from our usual because there are no wins or losses. We will only be bowling for total pinfall for the highest place finish. This competition will be wonderful preparation for us as we await USBC postseason play. We are so close to something special happening with this team and having the extra time in a competitive environment will make such a huge impact for us."
Last weekend, the Blazers finished fourth at the MEAC Championship in Chesapeake, Va. The Blazers played in two mega matches that consisted of one traditional game and a total pinfall baker match.
UAB faced North Carolina A&T in its first mega match of the day. The Aggies won the traditional match (916-740) and the baker match (1030-783). Individually, Katie Hurley led the way with a total pinfall of 176 and Elise London finished with 154.
The Blazers met Delaware State in the elimination bracket but fell short 2-0. Jamie Krasnigor finished with a total pinfall of 211 and Haley Kvarnberg was second on the team with 191.
Competing in the Columbia 300 Western Shootout will be Cayla Davidson, Katie Hurley, Samantha Johnson, Jamie Krasnigor, Haley Kvarnberg, Elise London and Shauna Rodgers.
