Women’s Golf Places Eighth at Bama Beach Bash in Gulf Shores

BIRMINGHAM – Led by a top 20 finish by freshman Emilia Smith, the UAB women's golf team finished eighth at the Bama Beach Bash this weekend at Gulf Shores Country Club.
Smith (80-74-74 = 228, +12) notched her second consecutive top 20 finish and her third of the season by tying for 16th overall. She finished two strokes ahead of senior Stephenie Fowler (78-76-76 = 230, +14), who just missed a top 20 finish by tying for 21st overall.
The remainder of the UAB lineup finished in the bottom half of the field as Shelly Chen (+25) tied for 56, Tia Teiniketo (+27) tied for 62nd and Karlee Allen (+29) tied for 70th.
Playing as individuals, Lexie Dawson (77-80-77 = 234, +18) tied for 36th overall, followed by Caroline Waldrop (+28) who tied for 65th and Rose Baral (+38) who tied for 85th.
South Alabama (+27) won the tournament by nine strokes over ULM and Texas State who tied for second. Teresa Toscano (-3) of South Dakota State won the individual title by four strokes.
The Blazers are back in action next Monday and Tuesday, March 29-30, as UAB heads to Chattanooga for a tournament hosted by the Mocs.
