UAB Defeats No. 20 Tulane on Day Two of March to May

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The UAB beach volleyball team earned its third win over a nationally ranked opponent in program history with a 3-2 victory against No. 20 Tulane on Saturday at The Hangout in Gulf Shores.
The Blazers (6-5, 2-4 CCSA) also stood toe-to-toe with No. 18 Georgia State in their afternoon match, but ultimately fell 3-2 in a highly competitive match which came down to the third set on court one.
Junior Dylynn Otte and Emma Andraka were 2-0 today with both of their victories coming in straight sets on court two.
Against Tulane, Sarah Dickson and Ella Alexander won a three set thriller 21-14, 12-21, 15-13, to even the match 1-1 with the Green Wave.
Otte and Andraka then gave UAB a 2-1 lead with a 24-22, 21-12 victory, and Rachel Tam and Mikayla Law-Heese sealed the victory with a 21-18, 21-18 straight set victory on court one.
Not only was it UAB's third win over a nationally ranked opponent, but it also snapped a 10-match losing streak to the Green Wave.
In the afternoon match against Georgia State, SalliAnne Napolitano notched her team-high ninth victory with a court four win alongside teammate Adriana Pereira, 21-16, 21-19.
The Blazers then went ahead 2-1 with Otte and Andraka winning court two, but Georgia State captured court three to tie the match at 2-2. With all eyes on court one, GSU was able to win the third set 15-13 to secure the team victory.
UAB is back in action on Sunday for the final day of the March to May with contests against No. 10 TCU and No. 3 LSU.
