UAB Beach Volleyball Set to Host March to May in Gulf Shores

BIRMINGHAM – Hosting one the nation's premier beach volleyball tournaments, the UAB beach volleyball welcomes six nationally ranked teams to Gulf Shores for the third annual March to May. The tournament is set for this Friday-Sunday, March 12-14, at The Hangout.
This weekend's tournament is at the site of the NCAA National Championship which will be played on May 7-9. UAB is the annual host of the NCAA Championship and holds a pre-national tournament featuring the top teams in the country who have aspirations to compete for an NCAA title.
All six teams that UAB hosts this weekend are nationally ranked: No. 2 Florida State, No. 3 LSU, No. 10 TCU, No. 11 Grand Canyon, No. 18 Georgia State and No. 20 Tulane.
"When you think of Gulf Shores, you think of high caliber teams," head coach Terri Del Conte said. "The goal of the March to May Tournament is to bring some of the best teams together to give them a glimpse of the NCAA Tournament. We want to make this a great event for all the teams, preparing them for the growth and high level of our sport."
The Blazers are 5-3 overall and 1-3 in CCSA league play. UAB is coming off a 2-2 weekend at the Horned Frog Challenge with wins over Southern Miss and Central Arkansas, and losses to No. 14 FIU and No. 11 TCU. The Blazers were up 2-0 on TCU after the first flight, but ultimately fell 3-2 to the Horned Frogs.
Senior SalliAnne Napolitano is having a tremendous start to the season and has an 8-0 record overall. She is 5-0 on court five and 3-0 on court four, including wins over nationally ranked opponents FIU and TCU.
Napolitano moved into the top 10 for career victories last weekend with 37, which currently ranks her ninth in school history.
