Blazers Finish Third at MEAC #1

GWYNN OAK, Md. – The UAB bowling team had a strong showing at the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition of the season, finishing third in a tough field that featured four ranked programs.
During the tournament, UAB finished with a final record of 5-3 with three of the wins coming over ranked opponents. Both days of MEAC #1 featured four baker games.
On day one, the Blazers started out strong with an 848-759 victory over Howard. Match two saw the Green and Gold's lone loss of the day versus Coppin State. The final two competitions to round out the day saw a 915-741 victory over Norfolk State and a 985-980 victory over No. 14 Delaware State.
UAB faced three ranked opponents to open up the second day. In the first baker match, No. 5 North Carolina A&T State, and eventual winners of MEAC #1, took the match 994-875. The Blazers went on a streak and took the match victories over No. 20 Maryland Eastern Shore 893-853 and pulled out the close win against No. 19 Monmouth, 984-983.
Overall, UAB is 11-10 and 5-3 in MEAC play on the season.
The Blazers return to the lanes when they make the short drive down to Montgomery, Ala. for the Hornet Classic Nov. 19-21.
