UAB Bowling Places 11th at Season-Opening DezyStrong Classic

CORAM, N.Y. – The UAB bowling team opened the 2021-22 season with an 11th place finish at the DezyStrong Classic in Coram, N.Y. The Blazers finished 6-7 on the weekend, including a 3-2 record on the second day.
UAB started its competition on Friday with five baker matches. The Green and Gold opened with three tough matches, falling in a close one to St. Francis (PA) 862-872. The Blazers then faced two top-25 teams in No. 23 LIU (L, 863-897) and No. 13 Mount Saint Mary's (L, 877-966).
The afternoon round saw the first win of the tournament and season against Bloomfield (875-851). UAB closed out day one with a tight baker match against St. Francis Brooklyn, but fell 827-851.
After dropping the first two traditional matches on the second day to host institution Adelphi (845-956) and fellow MEAC opponent No. 19 Monmouth (827-1,035), the Blazers fought back and won the final three matches – No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson (892-886), Molloy College (792-784) and No. 22 Prairie View A&M (881-877).
The final day saw a best-of-seven baker format with the Blazers finishing with a 2-1 record with wins over St. Francis (PA) (1,236-1,214) and Molloy College (1,083-988).
Individually, Elise London led the Blazers with a 31st place finish with a total pinfall of 919. Katie Hurley followed closely behind with a total pinfall of 918 and a 32nd place finish. Jamie Krasnigor (869, 41st), Shauna Rodgers (820, 48th) and Jillian Hulsey (575, 68th) rounded out the top-five for UAB.
The Blazers return to the lanes when they travel to Baltimore, Md. on Nov. 13-14 for MEAC #1.
