BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's golf team concluded its fall schedule on Tuesday with a fifth place finish at the FAU Jupiter Invitational in Port St. Lucie, Fla., at the PGA Golf Club.
"These four fall tournaments were great experiences and growing opportunities for our girls," head coach Kari Bellville said. "Each of our players individually accomplished goals and learned where they need to refine their skills. Hard work will be put in this off season and we look forward to competing again in the spring ."
The Blazers were led by Emilia Smith who notched the team's best individual finish of the season of 12th place. Smith (76-73-70 = 219, +6) moved up nine spots with a big final round by shooting a two-under 70.
Smith has excelled in the final round of her four tournaments this season, finishing under par in three of those four rounds (71, 75, 70, 70).
The Blazers had three players finish inside the top 20 as both Karlee Allen and Erika Allen also shot their lowest scores of the fall. Karlee (72-75-74 = 221, +8) finished in a tie for 17th place, while her sister Erika (74-70-78 = 222, +9) finished one shot behind her in a tie for 19th.
Marilyn Steed (76-75-76 = 228, +14) finished in a tie for 30th, and Rose Baral rounded out the team with a 33rd place finish (78-75-75 = 228, +15).
UAB shot +34 overall (298-293-295 = 886) and finished behind Florida Atlantic (+6), Kennesaw State (+10), Nova Southeastern (+11) and Florida Gulf Coast (+19).
UAB resumes action in February at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate hosted by Tulane.
