Matt Quinn Named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – For a perfect outing in his collegiate debut, redshirt freshman placekicker Matt Quinn has been named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday.
Quinn scored nine points in UAB's 45-35 victory over Central Arkansas. He was 6-of-6 on point after attempts and converted his only field goal attempt of the game, a 23-yarder in the third quarter.
Quinn was a highly touted kicker out of Spanish Fort and took a redshirt season in 2019 waiting behind record-setting kicker Nick Vogel.
UAB won two Special Teams Player of the Week awards last season, as both Myron Mitchell and Vogel were each honored once. Quinn is the first Blazer to be recognized by the league this year.
The Blazers put up 459 yards of total offense in the season opener against Central Arkansas and scored on seven of their 13 possessions.
UAB (1-0) travels to Miami (0-0) this week for its first ever matchup with the Hurricanes. The game at Hard Rock Stadium is set for Thursday, Sept. 10, at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CST on the ACC Network.
