Three UAB Men’s Golfers Set to Play in 120th US Amateur

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team will be sending a school-record three Blazers to the 120th US Amateur, which is set to begin Monday, August 10, at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.
The three student-athletes representing UAB next week are William Walker III, Ben Reichert and Drew Mathers. This is Walker's second-straight appearance at the US Amateur, and for Reichert his third time playing in the last four years.
"Having three players complete in the US Amateur is quite the accomplishment," said head coach Mike Wilson. "Bandon Dunes is a great test and will provide our players with an experience they will never forget."
The three players made the field based on their current world ranking (Walker III – 275, Reichert – 337, Mathers – 493).
Reichert is the first to tee off on Monday at 8:39 a.m. PST and is paired with Tripp Kinney and Steve Harwell. Walker III will tee off on Monday at 8:50 a.m. with Jacob Koppenberg and Blake Taylor. Mathers goes at 10:18 a.m. with AJ Ott and Jack Wall.
Walker and Reichert helped UAB to one of its most successful year's in program history in 2019-20. These two guided the Blazers to their first Top 25 ranking since 2013. Mathers joins the team as a graduate transfer and was the No. 2 ranked Division III golfer in the country last year at Huntingdon College.
