Fuqua Lands on Patrick Mannelly Award Preseason Watch List

BIRMINGHAM – UAB redshirt senior long snapper Jacob Fuqua has been named to the Patrick Mannelly Long Snapper Award Watch list. The award, given each year to the nation's best long snapper, is named after former Chicago Bear Patrick Mannelly.
Fuqua, a 2019 Honorable Mention All-Conference USA player, finds himself on the initial 20-man watch list for the award and is the lone player on the list from Conference USA. He has handled all long and short snapping duties for the Green and Gold the past two seasons after being the primary short snapper in 2017.
During the 2019 season, Fuqua tallied four tackles and recovered a fumble, all while helping kicker Nick Vogel hit 37-of-37 PATs and 19-of-23 field goal attempts.
Semifinalists for the award are scheduled to be announced on Nov. 16, while finalists will be named on Nov. 27 with a winner being chosen on Dec. 12.
The selection committee for the Patrick Mannelly Award includes six former NFL long snappers, former NFL head coach Dave Wannstedt, former national championship-winning coach Tom Osborne, NFL kicker Robbie Gould, and writer Phil Steele, among six other members.
