BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's golfers Ethan Hagood, John Snoddy and William Walker III have been named 2019-20 Early Wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The three Blazers were among the record-setting 614 student-athletes covering Division I, II and III. Of those, 376 were Division I athletes.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.
"It is a great achievement to have three guys from our team receive this honor," said reigning Conference USA Coach of the Year Mike Wilson. "They have consistently produced on the course and in the classroom. I am proud of their effort and what they bring to our program."
A rising junior, Hagood holds a 3.48 GPA in Material Engineering. Fellow junior John Snoddy has a 3.4 GPA as an Accounting major, while Walker has a 3.29 in General Studies with a minor in human services and psychology.
These three helped UAB achieve one of its best seasons in program history before COVID-19 cut the spring short. The Blazers were the highest ranked team in Conference USA when the season ended and were virtually a lock for the NCAA Tournament.
All three of these Scholar All-Americans return for the 2020-21 year as UAB once again looks to contend as one of the premier golf programs in the nation.
