BIRMINGHAM – Senior wide receiver Myron Mitchell has been named to the Paul Hornung Award Preseason Watch List, annually presented to the most versatile player in college football by the Louisville Sports Commission.
Mitchell is one of 50 players nationwide named to the preseason watch list, and only one of four from Conference USA (Jaylond Adams – Southern Miss, Xavier Gaines – Marshall, Austin Trammell – Rice).
Not only is Mitchell a standout receiver for the Blazers, but he is also dynamic in the return game. Last year, Mitchell finished second on the team in all-purpose yards with 1,005. He compiled 554 yards receiving on 34 catches, and also added 403 kickoff return yards, 44 punt return yards and four rushing yards.
Along with numerous diving catches Mitchell made throughout the year, one of his most explosive plays came in the season opener when he took a first quarter kickoff 98 yards to the house in a 24-19 victory over Alabama State. It was UAB's first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2014.
Mitchell is also a part of UAB's lethal 1-2 receiving combination alongside Austin Watkins Jr. These two combined for 91 catches, 1,646 receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns in 2019.
The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse is in its 11th season. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville in March of 2021.
Mitchell is one of six Blazers who have landed on national preseason watch lists. UAB returns 18 total starters to a team that won the second most games in program history a year ago (9).
The Blazers aim for their third straight C-USA West Division title in 2020 and their second overall championship in the last three years.
Season tickets for 2020 are on sale starting as low as $75 with the Family Four Pack. Blazer Boosters members and current season ticket holders will have top priority for Protective Stadium entering 2021. Click here to purchase season tickets.
The UAB Department of Athletics has announced mobile ticketing new for the 2020 season, along with ticket reassurance for those who have already purchased season tickets.
