BIRMINGHAM – Senior William Walker III has been named to the Division I PING Southeast All-Region Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Walker III is one of 25 players in the Southeast to earn this prestigious honor.
Walker III put together one of the best seasons in UAB history before play was suspended due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Walker III ended the year with a stroke average of 70.3, the second lowest in school history only behind Graeme McDowell.
"This is a great honor for William. He had one of the best seasons in UAB history and should be recognized for it," head coach Mike Wilson said. "It's a great honor to be considered one of the top golfers in the Southeast Region, which is regarded as the toughest region in the country.
In six tournaments (five fall, one spring), Walker III was at or under par in all six competitions, including shooting under par in five. In 18 total rounds, he shot under par in 13 of them.
Walker III placed top 20 in five tournaments and was top 10 twice. His best finish of third place came at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at Old Overton where he shot a -7.
The Tuscaloosa native also helped UAB achieve a national ranking of No. 25 on Oct. 16, 2019, and the Blazers finished the season as the highest ranked team in Conference USA.
