Flores Chosen as SoCon Smallbore Athlete of the Month

BIRMINGHAM - UAB sophomore Sophia Flores has been named the Southern Conference Smallbore Athlete of the Month for February, according to a release by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
"I am extremely proud of Sophia and everything that she does for our program," head coach Lori Goodwin said. "She is a great representative of our school and a fantastic athlete for our sport."
Flores competed in two matches in February, helping the Blazers to a first-place finish at Wofford on Feb. 1 and a second-place mark at NCAA Qualifiers on Feb. 22. She led the Blazers in smallbore score in both matches, shooting 576 and 575, respectively. The scores also represent her highest and second highest totals of the campaign.
The Blazers have now claimed two rifle Athlete of the Month awards in the past two months, with senior captain Lilly Vonderau having been tabbed for January.
UAB returns to the range on Saturday and Sunday as it shoots for back-to-back conference titles at the SoCon Championships in Statesboro, Ga.
