BIRMINGHAM-With the UAB bowling team's 2019-20 season ending prior to postseason, the No. 21 ranked Blazers concluded their regular season with a record of 57-41 and top-10 finishes in every competition this season.
Although UAB started the season in great fashion, the Blazers began to get into mid-season form after the Stallings Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. on Nov. 15. UAB finished in fourth place and picked up a win against then-ranked No. 8 North Carolina A&T.
After winter break, UAB started its spring schedule with a third place finish at the Wildcat Classic in Orlando, Fla. with four ranked wins over then-ranked No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, No. 13 Sacred Heart, No. 16 Tulane and No. 19 Maryville.
In their regular season finale, the Blazers finished in 10th place at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn. With 19 ranked teams in the field, UAB pulled out wins against No. 2 Sam Houston State, No. 10 North Carolina A&T and No. 25 Long Island.
"While we are very disappointed that our season ended this way, I couldn't be prouder of the way the girls progressed this season," said head coach Michelle Crews. "This spring has been tremendous for our confidence and chemistry. With every time they stepped on the lanes, they learned to fight harder and harder for every single pin. We are certainly going to miss our seniors that have been incredible leaders for us on and off the lanes. We know that they are going to go out into the world and do amazing things as we will be here at UAB taking care of some unfinished business for them."
Throughout the season, the Blazers received multiple accolades with three MEAC Bowler of the Week winners (Taylor Russell, Annie Hurley, Samantha Johnson). UAB also received All-Tournament team honors with junior Samantha Johnson named to the Allstate Sugar Bowl and Columbia 300 Music City Classic All-Tournament team, senior Taylor Russell named to the Stallings Invitational and MEAC #2 All-Tournament team and senior Rachel Strogin named to the Allstate Sugar Bowl All-Tournament team.
UAB will have six players returning next season in Cayla Davidson, Katie Hurley, Samantha Johnson, Jamie Krasnigor, Elise London and Morgan Mullinax.
